I had to backtrack a little on the T30 build. I had some issues with the wireless card, specifically getting via connection via the command line. After a lot of software testing, I finally got frustrated and opened the back of the laptop.
The wireless card on the T30 is easily accessible by removing a panel from the bottom of the laptop. It has two antenna connections at the top of the card, along with a plug that I assume is power. There is a shield over the card connector that is easy to remove. After that the card lifts out.
I would like to say that I fixed the problem. Well actually I did fix it, but I have no idea why. As to the how, I simply reinstalled the card and it started working. I really hate problems like that. But I have seen it before where you remove a supposed bad card, only to have it work when reinstalled.

Most full desktops available for Linux have their own system monitoring tools. Most Linux windows managers have no such tools. This is where Conky comes into the picture. It is a light weight non desktop specific system monitor for the X. Conky can work with pretty much any window manager and can monitor almost anything on your computer.
In this case I am using Conky on a IBM Thinkpad T30 running Debian Wheezy and the Fluxbox window manager. At this point I will not be getting to specific about the platform. Rather I want to look at the functionality of Conky. So assuming you have it set up correctly, according to your configuration so it launches at startup, you should have the Conky window on your desktop somewhere.

Just a heads up for visitors. I plan on moving some stuff around and creating a few more subject categories.
Everything will still be here, just moved around. For example, I no longer have my Portage m200. So while the category is going away, the articles will go under the Hardware category.
I may open a new category for my galaxy Tab, as I am acquiring many fascinating insights as I play with it. Of course I do have an older Think pad I may also play with. I shall see which way the spirit moves me.
Although I promised myself not to do it, I may have to create a gaming category, for the games I like to play.
The short of it is to expect some changes. Nothing will be removed, just reorganized. I am not sure when I will make the changes. But, if you have any comments, ideas, or desires you would like; please send an email.

A short book review;
I recently finished reading the book Imaginary Jesus by Matt Mikalatos. The book is a whimsical fantasy of the authors search for the real Jesus. Others have already commented on how the first chapter of the book starts off fast with the authors imaginary Jesus being punched out by the Apostle Peter, and the author being whisked to first century Judea and the subsequent discussions with a talking donkey. So I will move on to further insights presented in later chapters.
