"Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable."
- G.K. Chesterton
Then said Jesus unto him, “Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”
- Holy Bible; Matthew 26:52
Recently a blog posted a notion that the old saying “Guns Don't Kill People, People Kill People” was a crazy and stupid saying. That is the great thing about the INTERNET, any ignoramus can make ignorant statements. People have been killing other people since Cain and Able, long before there were any guns.

My new old experimentation laptop someone offloaded on me is an IBM Thinkpad T30. I have not yet loaded an Linux yet, so this is a brief description of what I can see from the outside. Once I turn it on (if it even comes on) I will follow up with more details.
The manufacturers sticker on the back gives me some additional information to work with. It shows additional typing information in the form of a part number. In this case the full description is IBM Thinkpad T30 type 2366-fbu. Doing a search with this information led to some more specific facts about the laptop beyond what is observable.

This is going to be somewhat short today. I loaded Debian Wheezy on the T30 the other day. Wheezy being the current Debian testing, though it is likely to become stable sometime soon.
The reason this is a short article is because the install went perfectly. The only additional step was installing the Linux Free and non Free firmware packages.
As usual, the first part of the install was the basic system without the GUI. The only additional selections I made from TASKSEL used were the standard system utilities and the Laptop. These two sections are small but contain some needed tools.

I had to backtrack a little on the T30 build. I had some issues with the wireless card, specifically getting via connection via the command line. After a lot of software testing, I finally got frustrated and opened the back of the laptop.
The wireless card on the T30 is easily accessible by removing a panel from the bottom of the laptop. It has two antenna connections at the top of the card, along with a plug that I assume is power. There is a shield over the card connector that is easy to remove. After that the card lifts out.
I would like to say that I fixed the problem. Well actually I did fix it, but I have no idea why. As to the how, I simply reinstalled the card and it started working. I really hate problems like that. But I have seen it before where you remove a supposed bad card, only to have it work when reinstalled.
